A group of 10 female police trainees became the first women police officers in Singapore when they signed on as regulars on 1 January 1950.

The first women police officers in Singapore began training in April 1949. At least 10 constituted the first batch of women regulars when they signed-on on 1 January 1950.  They also were the first females in the Civil Service to receive the same pay as their male colleagues. Mary Quintal became the first female Assistant Superintendent of Police. She retired in February 1974. The first female division commander is Ng Guat Ting, who took charge of the Clementi division in 1999. She also happens to be one of the first graduate women police officers to have been recruited by the organisation.
