Singapore's first suspension footbridge was built in 1998. The bridge spans the Geylang River and allows residents of Tanjong Rhu to cross over to the National Stadium.

Singapore's first suspension footbridge was officially opened by Koo Tsai Kee, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Defence on Tuesday, 4 August 1998. It was designed by the Public Works Department (now known as CPG Corporation Pte Ltd) and completed in July 1998. It was built at a cost of S$5.1 million and is 130 m long and 4 m wide. The bridge is suspended by 100 hangar cables that are one inch thick each and attached to two main cables. These two cables are each 4.5 inches thick and are anchored to a huge 19 m high "A" frame located at both ends of the bridge. Residents from the Tanjong Rhu enclave and members of the public can walk across the Geylang River using this footbridge to access the National Stadium, Indoor Stadium and Kallang Theatre.
