First Woman Mayor

Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, became the first woman in Singapore to hold the post of Mayor when she was appointed Mayor of the Bukit Timah district on 31 March 2001. With changes in the district, she now heads the SouthwestCommunity Development Council (CDC), a post she was given officially on 5 January 2002. The Southwest Community Development Council consists of Hong Kah Group Representative Constituency (GRC), Jurong GRC, West Coast GRC and the Single Member Constituencies (SMC) of Ayer Rajah, Bukit Timah and Chua Chu Kang.  The CDC organises programmes for the community, manages selected social assistance schemes and the development of family and child-care centres.
